Introduction

The two-year M. Phil Psychology program intends to provide students with empirical and professional graduates in the field of Psychology who will be trained to refine and sharpen their theoretical knowledge of Psychology into practicality from a researcher point of view. As the charisma of being an M. Phil scholar automatically develops an insight to understand psychological aspects of human behavior from a research-oriented perspective, however, the main focus of M. Phil Psychology is to train students on the basic and applied principals of research so they can carry out independent researchers in their professional careers.
One of the major purposes of M. Phil Psychology is to enable students with the opportunities to explore different perspectives of societies from a researcher point of view eventually becoming a valuable asset for the society. The scholars will also be trained to use their critical and creative thinking for evaluating scientific approach to evaluate different social issues of the societies.
Moreover, M. Phil Psychology program would also aim to demonstrate scholars with different effective writing and presentation skills for their personal as well as professional grooming.
M. Phil Program will emphasize on polishing research related skills of the students by studying different areas of Psychology and related fields that will offer a stable and excellent career, however, the emphasis of the program will be on analysing and evaluating empirical phenomenon and develop a research-based knowledge of psychology’s content domains by engaging scholars in innovative and integrative thinking.

Duration of the Program:

M.Phil. Psychology is two years program that is divided into one year of course work and one year for original research (thesis/dissertation).

Degree Requirement:

As per HEC rule, for the completion of M. Phil degree minimum 30 credit hours are required: 24 credit hours for course work and 6 credit hours for research.

Medium of Instruction and Examination:

Medium of instruction for M. Phil Psychology will be English.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Assessment criteria will be followed by the rules and regulations of University of Jhang.

Career opportunities:

M. Phil Psychology is a job-oriented program and the students can explore various career options depending on personal grooming and experience. However, with the skills and knowledge the scholars will acquire from studying from Department of Psychology, they will find themselves in demand from a wide range of employers in different academic and professional settings of Psychology.

Program Outcomes:

After completing the degree, the students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate psychology by describing key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in psychology.
  • Describe various practical applications of psychology in academic and research settings.
  • Investigate, design and carry out psychological researches on different domains of the society.
  • Demonstrate effective writing skills and exhibit effective presentation skills
  • Apply psychological content and skills to develop meaningful professional vision and growth.

Program Objectives

The following are the objectives of the program:

  • Understand and apply psychological principles to personal/ individual, social, and societal issues.
  • Understand and apply basic research methods and principles and to use different empirical techniques to describe and evaluate data.
  • Demonstrate effective writing presentation skills as part of professional development and grooming.
  • Understand the ethical and social responsibility of practicing psychological interventions for the betterment of society in a diverse environment.

Eligibility Criteria

The basic academic qualification to enter the M. Phil program is as follows:
  • BS (Hons)/ M. Sc in Psychology with at least 60% marks in annual examination or
  • 2.50/4.00 CGPA from HEC recognized institution.
  • The candidate must pass entry test/interview conducted by the Department of Psychology, University of Jhang, Jhang.
